PADI
Open Water Scuba Training Program
Learn
to dive with the world's most popular diving program!
Course
Schedules: We offer three types of instructional classes
for new divers: Week Nights, Weekend Intensives, and Private.
Week
Night classes meet two nights each week for 3 weeks. The first two nights of class
will meet at 7PM in our classroom at the dive shop and run until about 9:30. During these first two nights you will complete your academic sessions, quizzes and final exam. Pool sessions will meet approximately 7:30PM until 11PM. Classes are either
on Mondays and Wednesdays, or Tuesdays and Thursdays. Check our schedule for upcoming classes and register early so you have time to complete the home study portion of the course.
Weekend
Intensive classes meet two consecutive days. The Saturday session normally begins around 10am in our classroom and the pool session usually starts around 5pm and runs until approximately 9pm. Sunday's session normally begins with the pool, aorund 10am and ends by 2pm. Any academic work not completed on Saturday will be finished Sunday afternoon. The intensive course is demanding and requires all homework to be completed prior to class and for the students to be ready for the pool session when we arrive at the pool.
Private
classes are available. This option may help you fit scuba instruction
into a busy schedule and provide additional, personalized attention
for the student. Please contact us for availability.

Homework
First: Before you come to class for the first time, you'll
be asked to complete some homework. There are five Knowledge Reviews in the student's Open Water Diver manual, located at the end of each chapter. The student is responsible for reviewing the DVD and completing all five homestudy assignments prior to coming to class. If you have questions with the homework don't hesitate to give us a call.
Classroom
Instruction: When you start your classroom time, you'll
already have some knowledge of diving from watching the DVD's and
reading the book. You'll probably have a lot of questions, too!
Classroom time is used to review the Knowledge Reviews, apply the material to real diving situations and discuss scuba equipment.
Pool
Experience: In a heated indoor pool, under the supervision
of our PADI instructors and divemasters, you will learn and practice
the skills previewed during the DVD and discussed in the classroom.
We don't just talk to you about the fun, we get you in the water
so you can experience it for yourself. Skills taught in the pool are later reviewed in the open water during your four certification dives.
You might be wondering about what kind of skills will be taught? As a start you will learn how to assemble and disassemble your scuba configuration and prepare it for diving. Once you enter the water the instructor makes sure everyone is ready to go before starting water skills training. During that training you will learn how to control your buoyancy, at the surface, on the bottom and in mid-water. Breathing from your regulator is easy as well as clearing it of water should it become dislodged from your mouth. We will teach you how to clear you ears and sinuses, how to properly swim underwater with the scuba gear, how to clear water from a partial or fully flooded mask, how to share air if your buddy runs low, and many other basic scuba skills. Diving is easy once you know the basics and its our job to teach you the basics.
You will need to bring a
bathing suit and towel for all pool sessions.

Open
Water Fun: In order to achieve your PADI Open Water Diver
certification you must complete four open water training dives.
The training dives must be completed within 6 months of the classroom
and pool sessions. Referral training dives can be arranged if you
wish to complete your PADI certification in warmer waters or during
vacation. The open water dives allow you to demonstrate your ability
to perform basic scuba diving skills. (Each dive is outlined in
your blue log book, part of your course materials). A commonly asked question concerning the open water dives centers around the skills demonstrations and how much time they take up. Well, skills are important to review in the open water but it is just as important to "dive". DUring the open water dives the instructor willmake sure you have ample time to explore the surrounding waters after you have completed the skills review. You will have an opportunity to see our local marine life and learn about their habitat.
Diving is fun
and we want you to experience the underwater environment with confidence
in your diving ability.
